SENIOR TEAM COUNTY MATCH V WARWICKSHIRE
Tuesday 12th July
North Worcestershire Golf Club
CAPTAINS REPORT:
The team were all very buoyant at the start of the day and by lunch time the pairings were proving to be a good match and at lunch time we were all square after the morning green somes.
During the afternoon, continuous reports from the course demonstrated that the result was going to be a close one with all matches only 1 up or down. Warwickshire had obviously been practising their putting as reports started to come in of single putting resulting in matches just going Warwickshire’s way.
Although all the team fought hard and initially started to turn the scores around we were unfortunately pipped at the post with every match in the four ball’s going to Warwickshire. The final result being 15 to 3 to the visitors. So from our usual motto of ‘winning isn’t everything – it is the only thing’ we concluded that taking part in some fantastic matches played in the right spirit with old friends from our neighbouring county was the order of the day!!
Our thanks as always to our host club, North Worcestershire, for their hospitality and allowing us courtesy of the course for the day.
However, not daunted, we remain confident that we can increase the differential between losses and wins, currently standing at 3 wins to 2 losses, when we face our next opposition of Northants being played at Cleobury Mortimer on Monday 18th July 2011.
My next report will include the team selection to represent the county at the Team Championships being played at Kirkby Muxloe on Thursday August 11th. For now though, to all those who are playing at Worksop on Thursday 21st July in the Midland Amateur Championship, I wish them every success.
