THE KIDDERMINSTER CUP

Scratch Foursomes Matchplay Knock-Out for Club Teams of 6 Players over 55 years old

2011 Rules and Conditions

Eligibility            All Golf Clubs affiliated to the County Union may enter one or two teams (A Team, or A and B Teams) to play in this amateur matchplay foursomes competition. The matches to be played off scratch.

Club Teams      1) Each Club team to consist of six players and up to 4 Reserves, all over 55 years of age on 1st September 2011. A team not nominating reserves before playing its first match will play all matches with only the six players from that first match. A nominated player leaving a club during the competition may be replaced.

2) Playing handicap of each player must be “Active” and not exceed 18.

3) Having played for an A or B team, a player may only play for that team for the remainder of the competition..

                            4) Reserve players can be selected as a replacement for any team.

                            5) All players must have ‘Home Club’ handicap status in order to represent a Club.

Note: Club Team and Reserve Lists may be changed by notifying the County Secretary up to the day of participation by any of the Club’s Teams in its first match.

Entries               Entry Forms, together with the relevant Entry Fees shall be forwarded to Andrew Boyd, County Secretary, The Bear’s Den, Upper Street, Defford, Worcester, WR8 9BG. Cheques should be made payable to “WUGC”.

All entries shall be subject to the approval of the County Union Executive which reserves the right to accept or refuse or being accepted subsequently reject any entry without giving reason for its decision. The decision of the Executive or its delegated officers shall in all matters be final. Entries close 30th September.

Draw                  1) Shortly after the closing date the County Union will make the draw for matches from all the teams entered. It is anticipated the first round will be played by the end of October.

                            2) If a preliminary round is required, a draw from Club B Teams will be made to select the required number.

                            3) The first Club named in a match will play at home. All clubs drawn to play at home must provide a 30 minute buffer ahead of the first match. Any club unable to provide this should make this clear on entry and will be drawn away unless their opponents are also unable to provide the 30 minute buffer.

                            4) The final shall be played on the course selected by the County Championship Committee.

Match                 1) Matches shall be played as Foursomes Matchplay, with each team providing up to three pairs.

Arrangements 2) Each pair will play their game over 18 holes.

3) If required, halved games shall continue by “sudden death” until one team has won two games outright.

4) The competition to be played between October and May, directed and supervised by the County Union.

                            5) The last Sunday in each month shall be the final day to play each round, but teams are expected to liaise and may arrange a match on any mutually convenient earlier date, midweek or weekend. It is not the intention of the County to put pressure on a club’s weekend tee times during the reduced daylight hours of winter. Therefore teams are encouraged to find mutually convenient mid-week times if at all possible. The only situation when a play by date may be extended is if weather conditions in the second half of any month leads to widespread course closure in the county.

                            6)  Any Club hosting a match must offer a course conforming to CONGU Medal Play Conditions. Preferred Lies, as defined on fairways or through the green, or Temporary Tees are permitted. Any dropping or placing of the ball must be on the course. Local Rules regarding the use of tee pegs or artificial surfaces through the green, must be waived for matches in this competition.

7) Any Club drawn to play at home, whose course is closed and is unable to host a match arranged on the final day of the round being played, will lose home advantage if the opposing Club’s course is open for play and able to accommodate the match on that day. If the match is not played the away team will be awarded the match.

                            8) Each match shall be played in accordance with a) the Rules of Golf, as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and b), the Local Rules of the host Club at which each match is being played.

                            9) Host Clubs are asked to make the necessary arrangements that ensure that matches are not impeded by other players on the course. (See note in Draw clause 3) above)

                            10) Matches should start at the time mutually agreed between the opponents, with eight minute intervals between each game. R & A Rule 6-3, including the note regarding players that arrive within 5 minutes of their start time, shall apply. In exceptional circumstances, the team who are prevented from starting on time may waive their rights to claim any game.

Match                 1) It shall be the responsibility of the winning team to notify the County Union of the result as soon as possible.

Results              2) If the result is not communicated to the County Union by the Wednesday following the Round Closing Date, the County Union will award the match to one of the teams at its discretion.

Dress                 Dress must comply with the host Club’s dress regulations on the course and in the clubhouse.

Buggies             Buggies are not permitted. However if a) a player can show at the time the team is nominated, that he is disabled within the meaning of the Equality Act – Section 6 Disability and cannot play golf without the use of a ride-on buggy, and b) the Club hosting a match has Assessed the Risk of buggy use as acceptable under Health and Safety Regulations, then a buggy can be used by that player during this competition.

Advice               In accordance with the Note to Rule 8 of the Rules of Golf, for any match each team may appoint one person (in addition to the persons from whom advice may be asked under the Rule) who may give advice to members of the team. Such person shall be an amateur member of the same club and shall be identified to the County Union before giving advice.
