Pitcheroak Golf Course returns to its Glory Years

Pitcheroak GC, due to celebrate its Centenary in 2013, has not seen a day like it for decades. The members of Pitcheroak, Redditch Kingfisher Golf Club played their Club Championship last week. For the first time in many years the tournament was oversubscribed. The lucky ones who played saw the course in almost perfect condition with many of the competitors reflecting that the course was as good as it was in its glory years 40 years ago before the Bromsgrove Highway was built.

The Gross Tournament was won by Mark Goddard (Club Champion) with 68+71=139; Paul Jackson won the Nett prize with an amazing 22 under par for the 36 holes. Paul has already had his handicap revised!

However, surely the greatest feat of the month was performed by Jacob Bourne, aged 11, (photograph below)who just a week before the Club Championship holed out in one, his 3rd time in his very short career. Most of us lucky enough to make a hole in one usually do so on Par 3’s. Not Jacob, he holed out his tee shot on the 17th, a Par 4, measuring 261 yards. Most of us can’t even hit the ball that far let alone holing in one! Perhaps a new Rory Mcllroy beckons here in Redditch.
