2011 Men's Senior Match Play Final

The 2011 Men's Senior County Match Play Final was played at Fulford Heath Golf Club on Friday 23rd December 2011. The two finalists were Phil White and Bill Thompson. Although the temperature was quite mild at 12 C the strong gusty winds and some torrential rain made the playing conditions extremely challenging. Whilst walking up the 14th fairway both players had their umbrellas blown inside out and one severe gust blew over Phil's bag & trolley.

Bill took a two up lead during the back nine but some excellent putting from Phil kept the match alive as they battled against the difficult conditions.  Bill Thompson finally took the title on the last green by one hole.

Bill Thompson, County Chairman, was full of praise for the condition of the course, especially the greens, which were in superb condition, being fast and true. Greens of this quality are rarely found at this time of year and the club should be highly commended for preparing them to such a high standard.

The County would like to thank Fulford Heath Golf Club for hosting all the Seniors Match Play matches this year as well as the County Seniors Stroke Play Championship on 1st August this year.
